Welcome to the SIM 4 SAFETY CONFERENCE– Supporting CLAPA

About CLAPA

The Cleft Lip & Palate Association (CLAPA) is the only charity providing support to individuals and families affected by cleft lip and/or palate (cleft) in the UK. From the moment of diagnosis, CLAPA is there, offering reassurance, information, and building a welcoming community for families, children, and adults born with a cleft.

The Impact of Cleft

Imagine navigating a world where people stare at you in the street, or where expressing yourself becomes a challenge due to speech difficulties. For 1 in 700 babies born each year with a cleft lip and/or palate, this is a reality. These individuals often face a lifetime of complex surgeries, prejudice, bullying, isolation, and difficulties in various social settings, including school, relationships, and the workplace.

For more information on Cleft Lip & Palate and its treatment please visit our website -

The Power of Community

Being part of a community that understands the unique challenges of living with a cleft is crucial. CLAPA serves as the practical and emotional safety net our community needs. From the moment of diagnosis, CLAPA provides reassurance, information, and a supportive community. The aim is clear: to ensure that no one affected by cleft goes through their journey alone.

Making a Difference

The work carried out by CLAPA has a profound impact on the day-to-day lives of individuals facing the challenges of cleft. Your support for CLAPA will help:

  • Become a One-Stop Shop: CLAPA aims to be a comprehensive resource, answering every question individuals affected by cleft might have, from practical concerns to emotional support.

  • Tackle Barriers: CLAPA is committed to understanding and addressing the barriers that prevent people from accessing the support they need.

  • Increase Relevance and Influence: Your support will enable CLAPA to increase its relevance and influence in advocating for individuals with cleft. By forming beneficial partnerships with others working to improve the lives of those born with a cleft in the UK, CLAPA can amplify its impact.
